Press release: February 2008
Musicians are on the march in Hastings, and it's the new library they are heading for!
MULAG, the Music Libraries Action Group, is a county-wide organisation, and the minute it heard the county had decided to build a new library for Hastings, it asked a prominent group of Hastings musicians to form a working party to make sure music was not forgotten when the plans were being drawn up.
Michael Short, is a composer and ex-librarian, Louise Denny is a composer and working musician, while Marrion Wells is a music presenter and concert reviewer.
The working party is already meeting and is looking to work closely with the County Library Service to ensure there will be plenty of printed music and books on music as well as recorded music, when the new library opens.
Said MULAG chair John Webber, 'Whether it's classical, pop, folk or rock there's always something musical going on in Hastings, and yet musicians and music lovers alike have had nowhere to research or to browse since the old music library closed in 2002. That's far too long. We have been successful in getting music back into Lewes and Eastbourne libraries, and now it's Hastings' turn. Those of us from the rest of the county will be with Michael and his team every step of the way.'
Please join MULAG and we will keep you up to date with developments and events. Thank you for your interest.
